OBX WIND 2024 EVENT Long Distance Races

This is my 3rd year attending/ participating in the OBX WIND long distance race in Hatteras, NC, Outer Banks. This year there were 148 competitors, from pros to amateurs that came from all over the world. Brazil, Canada, Germany, USA and other countries were represented. It is a adrenaline rushing, exciting heart pounding race to the finish! Another words it is a blast of a time! Two heats races that totally 12 miles and scores combined. There are 2 windsurfing racing classes, the Open class and the 6.5 Limited class. The open class is you can choose any sail size you want. In that class, competitors usually choose the biggest windsurfing sail they can handle for the current wind conditions. In the limited class the biggest sail you can choose is a 6.5 sail size. I like this class because it makes for an even playing field . It is the largest wind surfing event in the East Coast!
