Hey there! This time, on the Unit-E Podcast, we are talking all about sports and education, and how to maintain balance between them. This topic was decided by the special guest of this episode, Shidong, who is a good friend of George, Margaret, and Flora. He plays multiple varsity sports at BCIS (@bcisonline) and does that along with working towards receiving a full IB diploma. As college applications get more and more competitive, more students are considering participating in varsity sports. However, because they are quite time-consuming, balancing that along with academic life could be a challenge for students. In this episode, you will be listening to what Shidong says about this phenomenon and how he manages his time to ensure he excels in both. You may or may not know, but the Ivy League was originally for these prestigious universities to compete against one another in sports, and then they formed the “Ivy League” as a league of schools focusing on education (still not giving up on sports of course). We can see how much universities value sports in their students, however, because the main priority for students is to learn and train their level of thought, not one side can be sacrificed for the other. This type of balance not only applies to sports and academics, but if there is something that dominates your student life other than academia, it is important to know your principles and priorities before making choices of either giving up one for the other, or choosing to devote more time to one or the other. It is also important to stick to your genuine passions and interests and not do something just because you see others doing it and it “helped” them on their application. For example, even if you are not interested in sports and competing, you force yourself to do it just because your peers are doing it and someone on the internet that claims that they got into some top university also did it. This is an example of what you should exactly not do in your student life. Student life should be something that is fun and should be a process for you to explore more possibilities in society and create a future pathway for yourself that you believe is the best for you. We hope that you like our work and would highly appreciate it if you can share this platform on our channel with other chaotic and ambitious teenagers like us! We are also working on a website and that will be available soon, so stay tuned for that as well! Just a lil’ note: our goal is to get 100K subscribers, so if you can help us on that journey, you might receive a small surprise from us :) That’s it for today! See you soon~
