Let’s start off with the basics. The game from Taco vs. Burrito is for 2 to 4 players ages 7 and up. The average game time is about 15 minutes with the objective of the game, to build the highest scoring taco or burrito. Here’s what’s in the box…. 4 double sided, taco burrito folders 56 playing card To set up, each player must collect a taco burrito folder. They choose which side they wish to build into. In a normal game, it doesn’t matter which side you choose. Next shuffle the cards and deal 5 cards to each player. All players need to check their hand to make sure they don’t have a heath inspector. If they do, remove that card and draw a new one. Place the health inspector cards back into the deck and shuffle again. Then place the cards in the center of the play area. The youngest player goes first, followed clockwise around the table. On your turn, you draw a card, and then you must play a card. There are four different types of cards. Ingredients – These are to be played into your taco or burrito. Each ingredient has a point value which increases the overall score of your taco or burrito. Tummy aches – these can be played into your opponents tacos or burritos. These have a negative point value and will reduce the overall score of your opponents taco or burrito. Hot sauce boss – can be placed into your taco or burrito and will double the overall score of your taco or burrito. If you have 2 hot sauce boss cards, it will quadruple your score. Action cards – these cards have a variety of effects depending on which is played. Let’s take a look at the different action cards. First the health inspector. When a player draws this card, they must immediately place it in the discard pile. You must take all items out of your taco or burrito and place them in the discard pile as well. Looks like you are starting again from scratch. The crafty crow. When you play a crafty crow to the discard pile, this means you can go into any of your opponents taco or burrito and steal an item and place it into your taco or burrito. The trash panda. When you play the trash panda to the discard pile, this means you can go through the discard pile and select any card to place into your hand. The food fight – when you play this card into the discard pile, it means that every player, starting with the person who played the food fight card will flip over one card from the draw pile. The player who gets the highest value card wins the food fight. That player can now select any one of the four cards that was turned over and place into their hand. The remaining cards not selected, are shuffled back into the draw pile. If there is a tie, the tieing players flip over another card to break the tie. If the draw pile does not have enough cards, the food fight is cancelled. The flipped cards return to the draw pile. Order envy – when you play this card, it means you can swap your burrito or taco with another player. No Bueno – This card can be played at anytime even if it is not your turn. It negates whatever card has been played just before. Say for example, I play a trash panda, and my opponent doesn’t want me to do that, they can play their no Bueno. Which now means, I cannot do the action of the trash panda, and my card remains in the discard pile. But let’s say I also have a no Bueno card, I could no Bueno, the no Bueno, which now becomes si Bueno and I get to now use my trash panda as I had originally intended. A no Bueno card cannot be used on a health inspector, nor can it be used to stop the last card from being played. Once a player runs out of cards, that is the end of the game. You should note, it is possible to add ingredients to other people’s burrito or taco plus you can also place a tummy ache into your own taco or burrito. Though it is unlikely to usually happen in the game, you may consider it depending on action cards you may play later on in the game. Play continues with players drawing a card and playing a card. If you run out of draw cards, play still continues, just skipping the drawing part of your turn. The game ends, when the first player runs out of cards. Once this happens, players count up their total score. The player with the highest score is the winner. Hungry yet? Now that you know the basics, it’s time to whip up your own taco or burrito!
