Since I have moved to Germany I have experienced many culture shocks and in this video I want to speak about my top five. I am sure everybody either moving to Germany or just visiting will experience funny, weird, crazy moments which differ from what you are used from home. It doesn’t matter if you come from the U.S.A./‚America, South Africa, Kenia or Africa in general, another European country, South America,…everybody dives into a new world, new culture, new society with new rules, standards and way of life. I will, together with my „Bebi“, navigate you through my most shocking moments or situations and since my „Bebi“ is german himself he will help to enlighten me and/or the situation a bit to make everybody also understand why some things just are the way they are. I will start talking about my first sauna experience with many „naked things“ hanging around:-), continued by a real special german behavior…the „stearing“…oh my god, I am sure many of you have experienced or heard about. Also very crazy for me is the german bread culture followed by „time is money“. Time plays a big role in german society and not being on time is seen as something not nice to others. I am happy I have been already always on time when i lived in Johannesburg. That made integrating here in Hamburg, Germany, way easier for me. For sure you need to be on time for work, but also for appointments, friends, family, bus, train and actually everything. That means you value the other person and his time as well. My number one culture shock is, according to my „Bebi“ a bit funny but I really stand to it. Going to a supermarket and to pack your own groceries and pay a small deposit to get a trolley. I tell you, if you are not used to it it will put you all under pressure. But why exactly? I explain on the video… But for sure, also getting used to that in the meanwhile.-) So hope you are interested in hearing my top 5 culture shocks and in case you have experienced the same you don’t feel alone anymore.
