County Cavan is made of limestone and boulder clay. The limestone is porous and allows water to surface, while the clay keeps the water underground. The sources of the Shannon in County Cavan appear and disappear as the water runs into limestone and boulder clay. See some of the prehistoric monuments in the Cavan Burren, too. The Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark sponsored this walk. The Geopark is in County Cavan, Ireland, and County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
