At the dragstrip, where an array of cars parades before your eyes, there lies a joy in discovering hidden treasures that only reveal their true worth over time. Such is the tale of the 1970 Plymouth GTX, proudly owned by the dynamic duo of “Mopar John” and Linda Borzych. This car boasts a unique history and an unmistakable appearance, thanks to its striking FJ5 Limelight paint. Back in the late '60s and early '70s, Mopar offered a handful of high-impact colors, and Limelight was one of them. In 1970, Plymouth made it an option, albeit at an extra cost of $14.00. John’s GTX was the very first to sport the FJ5 option, and it belonged to an exclusive club of just 478 vehicles adorned in this eye-catching green hue. Remarkably, it was also the third '70 GTX ever assembled. The car wears its original stripes, vinyl top, stainless trim, and glass—a testament to its authenticity and rarity. But what truly sets this GTX apart is the fascinating story of how John acquired it. In March 1970, with a mere 8,000 miles on the odometer, the car had been stolen, stripped down, and later recovered. John seized the opportunity to resurrect it as a drag car, restoring it to its former glory. Fast forward over five decades, and the GTX now roars with power. Nestled under the hood is a 1970 factory block, its crank stroked to a robust 493 cubic inches. INDY SR heads, meticulously ported, boast Max Wedge intake ports. And the pièce de résistance? A Quick Fuel 1050 CFM Dominator gas-type carburetor. John’s journey with this remarkable machine began in 1973 when he entered the NHRA Division 3 ET division. Over the years, he has battled it out on the track, reaching the finals multiple times. The 1970 Plymouth GTX—more than just a car, it’s a living legend, a testament to passion, resilience, and the thrill of the dragstrip. #car #dragrace #gtx #limelight
