Osteosarcoma is an aggressive bone cancer that causes severe pain due to the rapid destruction of bone tissue. Managing this pain is crucial for the dog's quality of life, often requiring a combination of medication and surgery. For dogs who are not candidates for surgery, radiation therapy may be an option. "Thabiso was diagnosed with a tumor on his right humerus on 8-14. The pain level progressed rapidly and meds just weren't controlling it. On 8-28, he had stereotactic radiation and on 9-4 he started chemo. We are so pleased with his progress. He does also have neuro issues affecting all 4 limbs, more his hind end than front, so his walking will never be "normal". The nighttime video was taken the night before we made the 4+ hour drive to PA for his 2 day radiation appt (day 1 was CT and planning, day 2 was the radiation) and the daytime video was taken today. On Thursday we were able to start weaning him off some of his pain meds. Hoping and praying for continued progress and pain control for our big guy. He is a certified therapy dog with over 800 visits and he has 48-4th graders eagerly awaiting his return to his reading classroom and we are hopeful he will be back to work this fall."
