Chasing Waterfalls in Canada's Northwest Territories - July 2024

We spent the month of July 2024 exploring Canada's Northwest Territories, traveling on mostly gravel roads from campground to campground, keeping a close eye on the Wildfires. The idea was to go North to escape the Louisiana heat but the heat found its way up North with an unusually hot July, 12 degrees above normal temperatures the entire month. It took several days to go thru Alberta to NWT, where we met beautiful people everywhere we went, especially Sheila and Raven of Hay River, Frank and Priscilla from Edmonton whom we met in Fort Simpson, and Yvonne from Whitehorse, Yukon. Their friendship was a highlight of the trip! We entered NWT and stayed at Twins Falls Campground, outside of Enterprise. This little community was devastated by the wildfires of 2023. Then we went up to Hay River and stayed a few days, east to Fort Smith where we explored Wood Buffalo National Park and went to a Treaty Celebration, backtracked and headed toward Yellowknife. Explored this beautiful capital city of NWT, then headed toward Ft. Simpson, where another highlight of the trip took place. We took a flightseeing tour of Nahanni National Park Reserve aboard a DeHavilland Beaver float plane. What an amazing ride! Virginia Falls is unquestionably one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. Kudos to Simpson Air and our pilot for a spectacular trip!
