De Clase Internacional: An Innovative Multilingual Magazine without Cultural Barriers

Presenters: Nico Wiersema , Manuel Tapia , Elena Jiménez , Martha Del Angel In order to provide a suitable, current and innovative platform for language education experts, we launched an online, free magazine called De Clase Internacional at the Department of Foreign Languages of the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. We will focus on the most relevant aspects of our magazine and site that make it unique for our readers and authors. The magazine (ISSN 2683-1554) has been published twice a year since 2013. Since then, we have focused on the use of different languages for the texts that we publish. We have thus been able to create a multilingual, intercultural magazine that publishes articles in French, English, Spanish and German. This gives us a wide audience and also opportunity for speakers of other languages to share their classroom experiences and/ or research. Some very well known authors have written for our magazine such as Randall Davis of the ESL Cyber Listening Lab, and Ken Beatty, author of LEAP, among other titles. In addition, we have had contributions from Colombia, The USA, Spain and of course Mexico. We have also published two special editions dedicated to language conferences. Throughout its history, the magazine has dedicated its issues to different, relevant topics in our field such as ELT, French as a foreign language (FLE), Chinese as a foreign language, a large variety of classroom activities and related research, analyses of studies related to specific contexts and audiences, interculturality, bilingualism and multilingualism. Needless to say, since ELT is currently our largest area of interest, contributions dedicated to ELT form the bulk of our publication. It is therefore a magazine that will hopefully spark the interest of this audience as future readers and/ or authors.
