Explore the hidden Ottoman History of Budapest 2023

If you are looking for a jumping-off point to explore the Ottoman history of Budapest than this video is for you. And great news! Now I will be leading in-person guided experiences just like I talked about in this video. This weekend we are doing a HAVAGO.CO guided experience on the Buda side of the city. We shall wander the mazy streets of Buda and explore the secrets of Ottoman history in the city. We will learn all about the occupation and liberation! A time of heroes, legends, myths and more. Come join my experience, this saturday, March 11th, 14:00 - 17:00 The Ottoman occupation of Budapest took place during the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Ottoman Empire expanded into Europe and conquered much of the Balkans, including Hungary. The Ottoman forces first laid siege to Budapest in 1526, but it was not until 1541 that they were able to capture the city, which became part of the Ottoman Empire for over 150 years. During this period, Budapest, then known as Buda, became an important center of Ottoman rule in Hungary. The city was transformed with the construction of new mosques, baths, and other buildings, many of which can still be seen today such as the tomb of Gül Baba. In this video we take a little walk up on the Buda side to the tomb of Gül Baba, an Ottoman Bektashi dervish and poet who settled in Buda, now part of Budapest, in the 16th century. In this video we visit his tomb, which served as a mosque during the Ottoman occupation, and learn about his life and legacy. You can also visit the on-site museum. Don't miss this unique opportunity to delve into the fascinating cultural and historical heritage of Hungary. Gul Baba came to Hungary in 1541 as a member of the Ottoman army during the siege of Buda (now Budapest). He settled in Buda and became a respected member of the Ottoman community. According to legend, he helped the sick and needy and his prayers were said to have healing powers. After his death, his tomb was built on a hill in Buda, which is now part of Budapest. The tomb was originally a small shrine but was later expanded into a mosque during the Ottoman occupation of Hungary. The mosque was named after Gul Baba and served as a place of worship for the Ottoman soldiers and local Muslims.
