What started as a peaceful camping trip near Williams, Arizona, quickly turned into a scary camping nightmare. I arrived at a secluded campground in the American southwest, expecting a calm evening around the campfire with my dog, Mason. Little did I know, my night would be filled with horror! Just as I settled in, a massive fifth-wheel pulled in next to me with loud kids, an obnoxious dog, blaring music, and even a dance competition! The chaos wasn't the only terror awaiting me, though. As midnight approached, I was surrounded by creepy animals lurking around my camper. To make matters worse, my heater failed on what felt like the first night of winter camping—no heat, freezing temperatures, and I wasn't prepared! I scrambled to find any survival gear in my tiny camper and braced myself for the cold. Memories of a previous near-hypothermia experience haunted me as I took all precautions to avoid a repeat of that scary night. Barely making it through the night, I woke up to go fishing and caught a largemouth bass before cooking up a hearty campfire breakfast. But the fear of those scary animals and the bone-chilling night will keep me far away from campgrounds for a long time.
