Glacier National Park in Montana is one of the largest and most intact ecosystems in North America - the land of big skies, big mountains, and big adventures. 2:00 - Going-on-the-Sun-Road 3:09 - The Weeping Wall 3:29 - History about Going-to-the-Sun-Road 4:41 - Logan's Pass (Continental Divide) 6:04 - Jackson Glacier Overlook 7:32 - Grinnell Glacier Trailhead (hike) 8:18 - Lake Josephine 10:24 - Bear Encounter 12:27 - Grinnell Lake The park is named for the colossal glacier of the past that whittled away the summit with over one million acres of mountains, turquoise lakes and forested valleys - it’s no wonder this park has been dubbed the crown of the continent. Despite its size and rugged nature, there are numerous ways to explore its wonders. We take one of the most awesome drives on the planet. First, a heart-pumping cliffside adventure through the park. Then, we’ll explore the glacial lakes by boat where we hope to see a lot of wildlife and cap it off with an epic hike up to Grinnell Glacier. Glacier National Park is located in northwestern Montana on the Canadian border sprawled across the Rocky Mountains. When it comes to glaciers, there’s one adventure that is on everyone’s to-do list - we’re gonna take the going-to-the-sun-road which is one of the coolest roads we’ve ever driven in the country. We’re talking 52 miles, the only road that crosses the park and the continental divide. Going-to-the-Sun-Road You start in the lower areas and you wrap around Lake McDonald which is the biggest lake in the park. After a while, you’re going through some forests and then you see this tunnel. Once you go through the tunnels, you’ll realize that you are in the mountains. It takes about 2 hours to drive the entire road. You eventually pass by the Weeping Wall - a rock face cascading spring water and snowmelt along the Going To The Sun Road. 100 feet long, gushing torrents of water during run-off, this cliff is a popular scenic stopping point. Eventually, you hit Logan’s Pass. At an elevation of almost 7,000 feet, Logan Pass, Glacier National Park sits atop the continental divide which is a natural boundary where water from the western side flow toward the pacific ocean, and on the east, waters flow into the Atlantic or the Gulf of Mexico. You then hit the Jackson Glacier Overlook - one of the largest glaciers they still have in the park today. At about 250 acres in size, Jackson Glacier is definitely one of the easiest to see. Grinnell Glacier Grinnell point rises up to 7600 ft. Like the glacier itself, it’s named after famed conservationist - George Bird Grinnell who helped create this park. Even though Grinnell Glacier is only a four mile hike from here. We’re gonna have a vertical gain of 1600 feet which means this trail is steep. Unfortunately, in a few years, Grinnell Glacier might be gone. In the last hundred years, the number of glaciers in this park has gone from 150 to 25. Estimates show that those could all be gone by 2030.
