Clarendon is a neighborhood within Arlington County in Virginia. After years of major changes in the neighborhood over the years, there is no general agreement of the boundaries. Fun fact: Most of Clarendon’s 40-45 blocks resemble triangles instead of squares. Due to Clarendon’s blocks, the precise dimensions for the boundaries are not defined. Fun Fact: Clarendon was once known as “Little Saigon”. Nam Viet is the only Vietnamese restaurant that’s still open in Clarendon today. According to the Arlington County Cultural Project, about 15% of the Vietnamese refugee community lived in the Washington area during the mid-1970s. The neighborhood was then home to Vietnamese grocery stores, restaurants, department stores, and entertainment to service the large Vietnamese population in the area. By then, there was a lot of available and affordable housing. However, that didn’t last long as the Clarendon Metro started to take in major changes. It wasn’t long when rent started to rise. Staying in Clarendon Despite Clarendon’s booming economy, it still maintains plenty of parks (and dog parks), walking paths, playgrounds, and other areas that the community can enjoy. Clarendon has a wide variety of residents ranging from young professionals in their early 20s to older residents that settle in the neighborhood for retirement. Clarendon also has beautiful real estate commonly clustered in Lyon Village and Lyon Park. With plenty of living options such as condo buildings, townhouses, and more, Clarendon sure is to attract a wide range of buyers. Single-family homes are also available such as bungalows, Cape Cods, brick colonial houses, and even brand new homes in small plots of land. The Metro Clarendon’s metro area is just one of the few things that tourists and local residents alike gather in. Most commonly known for its bustling nightlife, the Clarendon metro area attracts a diverse population during the weekend. Recently, business chains have been popping up in the area however the metro still has a few community favorites such as Galaxy Hut, Whitlow’s on Wilson, which is a popular grill and bar venue, Liberty Tavern, and more.
