Here's my arrangement of 『MILABO』, which was performed by the Japanese band group ZUTOMAYO (ずっと真夜中でいいのに。). This song has a very funky feeling, which I personally found similar to Bruno Mars's song 'Up Town Funk'. The title MILABO is the Japanese pronunciation of 'mirror ball', which is the translation of 'disco ball' in Japan. While working on this song, I faced similar difficulties that I had when I arranged 'Karma' by Dareharu(달의하루), since the tempo is relatively slow, making it hard to convey the same groovy beat from the original. One thing I tried was to mimic the claps in the song by placing accents and chords at the same place to achieve this, though I think this wasn't enough for the chorus, I still think the arrangement lacks a bit of the original feeling. Before the final chorus, I "composed" some jazzy lines using call and response, instead of just repeating the vocal lines. I also made a dramatic pause before entering the chorus, just because I preferred it :) And of course, I changed some bits here and there for the jazz solo, so that the player can have some fun! In order to express the funky rhythm. controlling the accents and lengths of each note would be crucial, and of course the pedaling too! I think this arrangement is a hard one to learn because of all the jumps and complex rhythms, but it would be certainly worth it if you achieve it! I hope you enjoy! P.S.
