THE IMPACT OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON EMPLOYEE JOB PERFORMANCE: THE CASE OF OMAN Said Al Mandhari, ITHCA Group, Oman (Presented at the International Conference on Research in Education and Science (ICRES) which took place on April 27-30, 2024, in Antalya, TURKEY (https://www.2024.icres.net/) and at the International Conference on Education in Mathematics, Science and Technology (ICEMST) (https://www.2024.icemst.com/) organized by the International Society for Technology, Education and Science (ISTES) http://www.istes.org). The aim of this study is to explore, from the perspectives of employees at a telecommunications company in Oman, the extent to which emotional intelligence (1) improves job performance, and (2) increases organizational commitment. In addition to revealing how emotional intelligence is perceived, the study reports the relationship between emotional intelligence factors (empathy, social skills, self regulation, and intrinsic motivation) and the employees’ performance. The study is based on the assumption that higher emotional intelligence increases overall organizational effectiveness. A positivist philosophy underpins the research design of the study. A quantitative case study approach involving surveys administered to 66 male and female employees at the case organization was used for data collection. Descriptive statistics analysis was used for data analysis of the quantitative component of the study. The findings suggest that higher levels of empathy, social skills, and self-regulation improve communication and collaboration within the team. The results also reveal the importance of intrinsic motivation in aligning employee efforts with organizational goals. Significant correlations were found between emotional intelligence components and job performance metrics. Notably, although the sample is taken from one case study in a limited geographical area in Oman, which may jeopardize the generalizability of the findings, the study opens a new horizon of research in this area to validate the results in similar locations. The study provides insights, via the quantitative findings, into the multifaceted impact of emotional intelligence at Oman Broadband Company. It spotlights the critical roles of empathy, social skills, self-regulation, and motivation in enhancing job performance and organizational commitment. The insights gained from this study are useful to leaders, HR professionals, and policymakers. It provides them with an understanding of the value of fostering emotional intelligence to enhance workplace dynamics and achieve strategic objectives.
