We set out from Anchorage after a work week, and made it to Talkeetna by 6pm. We came up to Talkeetna for a few reasons including the food, a jet boat tour, and some hiking! We started out by visiting some of the best foods in Talkeetna - coffee and spinach bread. The spinach bread is almost as iconic as Talkeetna itself. It was delicious! We spent some time learning the history of Talkeetna before heading out to the river to do one of Talkeetna's top activities - a jet boat tour! We did the 2 hour wilderness tour. Mahay's Jet Boat offers multiple trips and you can't go wrong with any of them. We tried birch syrup ice cream, visited the Denali view point, and Nagley's General store, where we looked for the mayor of Talkeetna, which happens to be a cat! We stayed in a dry cabin while in Talkeetna, which means we had no plumbing or running water, and it was a great experience! Before heading home, we had one last stop in Denali State park, where we hiked Curry Ridge trail and got a few glimpses of Denali. Each of our Alaskan adventures have been done over a weekend, and we are so grateful to be able to do these things without having to travel far from home. Living in Alaska has been a dream so far, and we can't wait to continue exploring and sharing!
