How to Use MID Function in Excel

In this Excel Function Explained video series, I’ll illuminate how to use Mid function in excel. Excel Mid function is frequently used to Extract text from the middle of a text strings in excel. But it is different than the Left or Right Function. Using Mid function, you’ll be able to extract certain number of characters from your text string. You can give a starting number with length in this function. So basically, mid formula works based on starting number and length. Things you can do using Mid function in excel is to tell excel to return the characters from a text string based on a given starting point and length. That’s why you should learn to use Mid formula in excel. Let’s learn how to use Mid formula in excel without any delay. The Function looks like this = MID (Text, Starting Number, Number of Characters) The Mid function has three parameters or arguments. 1. Text: in this parameter, we need to either write the text or specify the cell from where we need to Extract the text. 2. Starting Number: This is where you specify from which character you need to start extracting. If you write 5 that means the formula will start extracting from the 5th character. 3. Number of Characters: here you will write how many characters you need to extract. If you write 3 that means Mid will extract three character from the starting point. Now there are two points you need to remember before using this function. 1. It considers space, decimal or any symbol as a character. 2. You can use this inside VBA also. This is how we use Mid in excel.
