Following topics are covered: #Light & Properties of Light: Rectilinear, Energy, Photons, Medium & Speed# Light is a form of energy. We develop a very simple model for light consisting a beam of photons. It can be used to explain several properties of light: 1. Rectilinear propagation (Important) 2. Light as form of energy 3. Light requires no medium 4. Speed of light #Luminous & Non Luminous Objects- Examples & Differences | Process of Perception# 1. Luminous objects produce their own light- sub, incandescent bulb, lamp, fire etc. 2. Non-luminous objects use the light from luminous objects to be seen. The idea of luminosity is closely related to process of perception which is also explained in the video. #Light Interactions: Reflection, Absorption, & Transmission | Regular/Specular & Diffuse/Irregular# Mayank describes the interactions of light: how does absorption, transmission and reflection work. There are two kinds of transmission and reflection 1. Diffuse or Irregular- this produces translucent objects in case of transmission and rough surfaces in case of reflection. 2. Regular or Specular- this produces transparent objects in case of transmission and smooth or mirror like surfaces in case of reflection. #What is Periscope How Does it Work? Understand Using 3D Model# Periscope works on simple principle of reflection of light. It consists of two mirrors placed at 45 degree angle so as to project an image of object obstructed by direct vision. Mayank explains how the mirrors are arranged in periscope to enable this using a 3D model. Concepts: 1. Reflection of light 2. Rectilinear motion of light 3. Mirrors Applications: 1. Spying 2. Photography 3. Medical imaging #Opaque, Translucent & Transparent: Object Classified Based on Light Transmission# Based on how the objects transmit light- they can be classified into three types: 1. Transparent: The objects which have regular transmission- whether color or plain for example, glass or color glass, air, water etc. 2. Translucent: Objects which undergo irregular transmission- objects appear fuzzy or blurry when looked through such objects- butter paper, tracing paper, thin plastic 3. Opaque: They do not transmit light- pen, pencil, rubber, metals, etc. #What is a Shadow | Shadow vs Image | 2-D Projections | Colored Shadow | Shadow of Transparent Object# How shadows are formed- which objects would produce shadows? Shadows of transparent, colored transparent and translucent objects. What kind of shadow formed is formed in colored light? Why is information lost in shadows? How is a shadow different from an image- Both are 2-D projections #How Does Pin-Hole Camera Work | Inverted Image | How to Construct a Pin-Hole Camera- 3D Model# Mayank explains the construction and workings of a pin-hole camera using a 3D Model. Constructing Pin-Home Camera #Light Dispersion | Formation of Rainbow- Breaking White Light into Colors- VIBGYOR | Olympiad# Mnemonic for remembering visible spectrum of light- VIBGYOR: Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red. Mayank explains the dispersion of light- and how the white light can be broken into the visible spectrum. A common example of dispersion can be seen in the Rainbow.
