Hello, in this video we look at what the role of a live in carer is and what they will typically do to help the person needing help and support in the home. You can read more about it here - https://ukcareguide.co.uk/live-in-care/ You can also find out more about UK Care Guide by visiting: Facebook –   / ukcareguide   Twitter -   / ukcareguide   Here is a transcript of this video. What does a Live in Carer do Hello I’m Rose from the UK Care Guide, and in this 5 minute video, I am going to cover what a Live in carer does. Basically, the Live in carer role can be split into two parts. The first part is the help that they can provide you in the home. The second part is the help that they can provide the person needing care. Let’s look at what both this roles would typically involve. The types of things that a live in carer will help you in the home with would include: 1 - Preparing and cooking your meals - Many carers are competent cooks and will work with you to understand what types of food you like and then make it for you 2 - Help you move around the house - Mobility issues can often limit how much some people can get about their home, especially if there are stairs involved. A carer can help you move about your home and make sure you dont suffer from falls. 3 - Do your washing and ironing - The carer will be either able to wash your clothes in your home or take them to a local a launderette. 4 - Do your daily household chores – The carer will keep your house neat and tidy, so you wont always need to hire a separate cleaner. 5 - Looking after your pets – You may have had a pet for a number of years but are now struggling to look after it properly. A carer can take on that role and ensure the pet is fed, walked and generally looked after. So, that covers the type of help you would get in your home. Let’s now look at how they would help you. The types of things the carer will do would include: 1 - Help with daily bathing, dressing and toileting – Whilst this is a very personal issue this support is essential. You will be able to choose a male or female carer to make things more comfortable for you. 2 - Make sure you take your medication – Sometimes people need reminding to take medication or have difficulty taking their medicines. A live in carer will do this for you 3 - Prevent loneliness – Getting older can be a lonely experience for some, particularly if you live alone. Therefore, the role of the carer is to give the person needing care someone that they can speak to on a daily basis 4 - Provide companionship and emotional support – A live in carer can act as an emotional crutch and act as a good place for the family to get regular feedback on the health and wellbeing of the person receiving care. 5 - Running your day to day errands – Everyone has regular errands that need doing. However, as you get older, mobility issues can be a challenge. Some live in carers will also have their own car which they will make available for running errands or doing daily tasks such as taking you to the hairdresser or doing your weekly shopping. 6- Taking you on days out – As some live in carers will access to their own car, they can often take the person needing care on day trips out to local attractions or even just to a cafe for lunch every now and again Ok, there we go. That was a brief outline of what a live in carer does. I hope you found this useful.
