Final Fantasy XIII - Mission 51 - Stage 8 primary roles, no shrouds, cheap upgrades

"Cheap upgrades" = No Scarletite/Adamantite/Dark Matter/Trapezohedron equipment. Gilgamesh, Inc. weapons are allowed since the prerequisite mission for obtaining them (mission 46) is a prerequisite mission for this mission. (This is sorta a moot point since Rigels are obtained from a treasure ball pre-Chapter 11, but it's worth mentioning.) Mission 51: Attacus Party: Sazh / Vanille / Snow Equipment/stats: Sazh: 4545 HP, 912 Str, 873 Mag Polaris Specials * General's Belt * General's Belt * General's Belt * Vanille: 3925 HP, 705 Str, 1023 Mag Malboro Wand * General's Belt * General's Belt * General's Belt * Snow: 5270 HP, 651 Str, 445 Mag Paladin Lv. 1 General's Belt * General's Belt * General's Belt * Paradigms: (Sazh / Vanille / Snow) Syn / Med / Sen -- Protection (default) Com / Sab / Sen -- Dirty Fighting Rav / Rav / Rav -- Tri-disaster Com / Rav / Sen -- Delta Attack Com / Med / Sen -- Solidarity Com / Med / Sen -- Solidarity There are two parts to this battle: 1.) The chaining part 2.) The damage dealing part Chaining is best done with the maximum number of buffs on the party and the maximum number of debuffs on Attacus. Here, we have six buffs (Haste, Vigilance, Bravery, Faith, Enspell, Barspell) and two applicable debuffs (Deprotect, Deshell). Due to Attacus's full chain resistance, the only method of chaining is via conditional chain modifiers. The biggest and easiest ones to use are the Rav modifiers, done by alternating Rav abilities (e.g., Thunder-Fire-Thunder-Fire-Thunder); each buff and debuff applied adds to this bonus. With these six buffs and two debuffs, each Rav spell different than the previous one will add 1.4% to Attacus's chain. It's not a hefty number but it's the best we can do. My strategy requires chaining to 500%. This can be done in about ten minutes. Use Protection to cast the six buffs on the party, Dirty Fighting to get the debuffs on Attacus, Tri-disaster for the chaining, and Solidarity or Protection for healing (depending on whether you need to recast buffs in addition to healing). Attacus's first form's physical attack does about 1200 damage to a non-Sen-aided character (thanks to all the General's Belts), therefore it's best to heal only when below 1300 HP. When in Rav you should manually input spells; spells never miss whereas attacks can (and will) miss (thanks to Attacus's constant movement). In Com you should alternate between Attack and Ruin; we don't care for damage yet and each alternating ability adds 0.2% to the chain (much less than 1.4%, but it's something). When shifting to Tri-disaster from Solidarity, try to shift while a Ruin is being cast; this Ruin will count for the 1.4% Rav conditional boost (and will always hit Attacus, unlike Attack). Once the chain hits 500%, the damage dealing part of the battle starts. Now the only buffs we care about are Haste-Bravery on Sazh and Haste-Faith on Vanille. Sazh should continually use Blitzx2 since this deals the most damage (especially when Attacus is right in front of Sazh). Attacus has three forms and the strategy will vary for each form: First form: This is the same as the form during the chaining phase and is pretty harmless to a Sen. Use Delta Attack so that Vanille can help out a tiny bit with chaining. When Snow hits critical HP, shift to Protection for a single round, then return to Delta Attack. If debuffs fall off, use Dirty Fighting until both Deprotect and Deshell are inflicted. (Deshell acts as a buffer against Attacus's future attacks that feature Esuna effects.) Second form: Attacus features a bigger sword now, his physical attacks deal slightly more damage, and he will use a Concentrate move with Esuna, Dispel, Deprotect, and Deshell effects in addition to somewhat significant damage. If Snow is in green without Deprotect, he will survive this move. The best plan is to make sure Snow stays in green, but Vanille doesn't need to be a perpetual Med for this to happen. Use Delta Attack when Snow is healthy. Shift to Protection when Snow hits yellow or if Deprotect is inflicted. When debuffs fall off, use Dirty Fighting. Third form: Attacus now has one arm and has a really big sword. His physical attacks are now significant and his Meditate move (which replaces Concentrate) does mega damage. The good news is you won't see Deprotect or Deshell any more (instead he will use Slow, which isn't a big deal at all). The bad news is that this attack will put a full health Mediguarding Snow into a couple hundred HP. Now you want Vanille to be a perpetual Med, unless she needs to re-inflict Deprotect. Shift between Protections for ATB refreshes, but try not to shift during Meditate (this ensures Snow will be Mediguarding through the attack). Keep this up until he dies. With these stats, you will get five stars just for winning. (The maximum battle duration for five stars is 27:19, but you'd die from Doom before then.) Target time: 43:59 Battle duration: 17:33 Score: 14758 (5 stars)
