It is intended to match director Zack Snyder's original vision for the film, prior to his departure from the production and subsequent studio interference. The film follows Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and a revived Superman (Henry Cavill) as they form an alliance to stop the extradimensional New God Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds) and his army of Parademons from conquering Earth for his overlord Darkseid (Ray Porter). Thousands of years ago, Darkseid, an Apokoliptian warlord, and his Parademons attempted to conquer Earth using the energies of three Mother Boxes. Their efforts were thwarted by a coalition of Olympian Gods, Amazons, Atlanteans, humans, and extraterrestrial beings. The Mother Boxes were separated and hidden. In the present, Superman's death triggers the reactivation of the Boxes, attracting Steppenwolf, Darkseid's lieutenant. Steppenwolf aims to form "The Unity," using the Mother Boxes to reshape Earth into his homeworld. Steppenwolf invades Themyscira for a Mother Box, prompting Diana Prince to seek Bruce Wayne's help in forming a team of metahumans. They recruit Barry Allen and Victor Stone after encountering resistance. Victor reveals that the Mother Box saved his life after an accident and the group realizes they can use it to revive Superman. Steppenwolf envisions the Anti-Life Equation on Earth, a power sought by Darkseid for ultimate control. Resurrecting Superman, the team faces challenges before restoring his memories. Together, they confront Steppenwolf and prevent the Unity, saving Earth. Darkseid vows to return for the Anti-Life Equation. In the aftermath, Bruce and Diana establish a team headquarters, Superman resumes his life, Arthur reconnects with his roots, Barry clears his father's name, and Victor discovers his purpose. Meanwhile, Lex Luthor escapes and reveals Batman's identity to Slade Wilson. An apocalyptic dream and a visit from Martian Manhunter hint at future battles.
