We (and special guest Kayla!) are back this week with of the most eerie experiences we have ever had - our visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone. What an eerie, surreal, interesting, sad, and educational day! There are a lot of places in the DMZ that you aren't allowed to film or take photos, but we managed to capture a good chunk of the day. We booked a day tour from Seoul and start the day by exploring Imjingak Peace Park, where we take the Peace Gondola to visit Camp Greaves, see the Freedom Bridge, and purchase some North Korean currency (North Korean Won). We also walked through the Third Infiltration Tunnel, where we wore hard hats and hiked through the steep, wet, dark, underground tunnel. From the rooftop at Dora Observatory, we could actually see into North Korea; it was surreal!! The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is a unique and historically significant area, serving as a buffer zone between North and South Korea. Stretching approximately 250 kilometers across the Korean Peninsula and about 4 kilometers wide, the DMZ was established on July 27, 1953, following the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement to cease hostilities during the Korean War. Within the DMZ lies the Joint Security Area (JSA), where negotiations between the two Koreas have traditionally taken place. This area is the only portion of the DMZ where both sides stand face-to-face. North Korea has dug several infiltration tunnels under the DMZ, with four discovered to date, believed to have been intended for surprise attacks on South Korea, and we visited the 3rd tunnel. The DMZ is heavily fortified with barbed wire fences, landmines (there were signs everywhere!), and guard posts on both sides, making it one of the most militarized borders in the world. Despite its tense history, the DMZ is a popular tourist destination, and if you want to book the same tour we did, you can find it on Klook: https://www.klook.com/activity/216-dm... We've been together for almost a decade and it hasn't been anything short of an adventure - from a 37-day train trip across Canada where all we could afford to eat was PB&Js to sipping champagne at the world-famous Moulin Rouge cabaret show in Paris. We started our Instagram travel page, @aditlous (an acronym for Another Day in the Life of Us), during our 5-week backpacking trip through Europe in 2019 as a way to keep connected with our family and friends. Since then, we've been traveling whenever possible, and now we're excited to share our next adventure with you - our honeymoon! We're celebrating by doing what we both love the most: traveling the world for one whole year together! When we're not jet-setting (or working), we love spending time with our friends and family, going to our local farmers market, checking out new restaurants, cocktail hopping, and exploring around BC. • A Once-in-a-Lifetime Honeymoon Advent...
