Hurricane Milton damage - Historic devastation to central Florida - Weather & Radar

Weather & Radar gives us a live look at Hurricane Milton damage after it made landfall near Siesta Key, Fla. Extensive damage is reported across many west-central Florida towns. As of 10 a.m., we are in Englewood, Fla., a small town just 30 miles southeast of Sarasota. Milton made landfall as a major Category 3 hurricane near Siesta Key, Fla., around 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, with sustained winds of 120 mph and higher gusts. The storm’s powerful winds, combined with significant rain and storm surge, left devastation in its wake. As of Thursday morning, more than 3 million households in Florida are without power, with most counties in the central part of the state nearing 100% power outages. Some of the highest measured wind gusts include 107 mph in Venice and 105 mph at Sarasota-Bradenton Airport. Tornadoes also played a destructive role as the National Weather Service in Miami, Tampa Bay, and Melbourne issued a record-breaking 126 tornado warnings, resulting in 36 confirmed tornadoes—the second-highest number of warnings issued in a single day in any state. Tampa and St. Petersburg were hit with extreme rainfall, with 5.1 inches recorded in just one hour in St. Petersburg and a staggering 16.6 inches over 24 hours. Statistically, this is a once-in-1,000-years event for the area, causing widespread flash flooding. The flooding in these cities was primarily from rain, rather than storm surge. Farther south, where Milton’s eye made landfall, storm surge flooding reached up to 10 feet above ground level in locations like Sarasota and Venice, adding to the severe impacts in those areas. This combination of wind, rain, and surge has resulted in one of the most destructive hurricanes to hit Florida in recent history. ⬇⬇⬇⬇⬇⬇ For more detailed information, please visit us ⬇⬇⬇⬇⬇⬇ https://app.weatherandradar.com/U13Q/...
