I was surprised to discover in the early afternoon of the 24th that only two cygnets remained of the quartet the day before. As usual, in the absence of local news to the contrary, it is assumed the missing pair had flown away from the immediate vicinity. My surprise was due to the rather half-hearted flying practice sessions of preceding days, giving no indication that any cygnet was confident enough for the height and distance required. Another surprise is the sight of cob TJJ actually taking off on a couple of occasions, rather than keeping to only a wing-assisted run.
