With a starting price of $139,900 for a G550 or $179,000 for an AMG G63 in the United States, it’s clear that this is a vehicle for those who value performance and luxury. But what about fuel efficiency? Well, Mercedes-Benz has been working on an electric version of the G-Class. This new variant will not only be instantly recognizable but will also feature a variety of aerodynamic tweaks to improve range. These changes are set to bring about a tremendous reduction in fuel consumption. Emmerich Schiller, Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz G GmbH, has promised a ‘really dramatic improvement to the aerodynamics.’ These changes will be so subtle that most people won’t even notice them, even when sitting right next to the vehicle. The production-ready EQG will break cover in the first part of 2024. Around the same time, the ICE version of the G-Class will also be updated. However, it’s worth noting that the 2024 G-Class will lose the V8-powered G500 model. The future of the US-spec G550 is still unclear.
