The Jeep Wrangler might get you into the dealership but if you are looking for more of a road going vehicle rather than an extreme off-road SUV then the Compass is more you style. The Sport and Latitude models come equipped with a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder engine whereas the Limited model reviewed here gets the 2.4 liter that makes 172 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic and fuel economy figures check in at 21 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. The Compass is built on a Mitsubishi car platform. Ride and handling are solid and this is surely the most car-like vehicle in the Jeep line-up. Jeep's Freedom Drive I full-time 4WD system is standard and the optional Freedom Drive II Package costs and additional $550 but adds stuff like tow hooks, larger 17-inch wheels, skid plate, hill descent control, and all-terrain tires just to name a few. The Limited model's cabin is upbeat and upscale. The leather wrapped steering wheel features integrated controls. The Saddle Tan leather upholstery is nice and the driver and passenger seat are multi-way adjustable and feature 2-level heating.
