Over the past two years, several new Cheetah have been introduced into Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park as part of an attempt to supplement their numbers and to build a genetically robust Cheetah population in the Park. In the long run, the aim is to be able to contribute to the overall Cheetah population in South Africa. All reintroduced Cheetah were fitted with tracking collars when they arrived in the Park. This enabled Wildlife ACT and Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife to track and determine the success of the project, to monitor the survival of the introduced Cheetah and their integration into the existing population, all of which can be used to inform management decisions going forward. Overall the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park Cheetah are doing well and we have even been fortunate enough to have observed one of the Cheetah raising her cub. This work would not have been possible without the assistance, support and generosity of the Endangered Wildlife Trust, Andrew Bone, the Forever Wild Foundation as well as the numerous reserves that provided the Cheetah, including Hopewell Private Game Reserve, Mountain Zebra National Park, Shamwari Private Game Reserve, uMkhuze Game Reserve and Welgevonden Game Reserve. Take a look at the video for some of the highlights over the past few months.
