Shadow decides to reveal his backstory to us, that he is indeed the same Quint from Mega Man II on Game Boy. He decided to come back in time again after supposedly conquering his own. So we gotta stop him. The stage is a big gauntlet of obstacles that we are familiar with, although the first thing it tosses at us are platforms that lower until they are offscreen. There's also a miniboss that can only be damaged by the big button on it's head. As for Shadow, he's actually the only boss that has phases. At first, he starts off being very Mega Man-like. He will jump to the center, and depending on your distance from him, he will either slide at you if you're far away, or shoot at you if you're close. When he's at 2/3rds of his health, he breaks out ol' Sakugarne. He will appear on top of you and try to slam down on you, causing rocks to fall as well. These rocks will never land in the corner, and you can only hit Shadow on his head. On the last third of his health, he will charge at your location with his saber and slash at you, shooting a spread of projectiles at the same time. The key thing to remember is that he doesn't change trajectory when he charges, and he's also too tall for you to jump over. So you gotta lure him into the air and go under him. But Shadow is defeated, and in his dying breaths, he tells us the real reason he came back in time. He actually wanted Mega Man to stop him, as he was corrupted by his own power and figured the best person to stop him was himself. So he's given a burial and Mega Man and Bass part ways.
