Portaferry is just across from Strangford at the Narrows of the Strangford Lough. As a result, Portaferry is on the Ards Peninsula and so this scenic drive back to Belfast is through the green and largely rural Ards Peninsula countryside and is a different route than the one we came down originally to Strangford. This drive north on the A22 also takes us through the towns of Kircubbin, Greyabbey and Newtownards. The excellent narration is being provided by Richard Orr, a noted travel guide and former professional actor, who was is one of the best tour guides I have encountered. The Ards Peninsula is what separates Strangford Lough from the North Channel of the Irish Sea. Excluding Newtownards and Bangor, about 30,000 people reside on the Peninsula.
