The famous Gagarin Bridge is fading into oblivion. The most famous bridge in Baku (along with Baghirov Bridge) has started to be dismantled these days. Although the reasons for this are quite understandable - the railway line to the port running under it has long been out of operation, and the bridge only creates problems with logistics. Gagarin bridge is passing into history before our eyes.... I think that it is worthy of capturing its history on the Web. Otherwise, the future generation will completely forget about the existence of this remarkable object in the history of the city. Baku Bridges There were four bridges in Soviet Baku that almost all Baku citizens knew: Chernogorod (1892) Shmidtov (1898) Baghirov (1955) Gagarin (1963) All of them were not classic bridges (for citizens), but overpasses for transportation. Only Gagarinsky was something in between, as there was a narrow strip of sidewalk. Until the mid-50s, Baku had no problems with leaving the central part of the city towards Moskovsky Avenue (Balakhani highway) and the Black City. These directions were not busy, and there were few cars at that time. But in 1957, mass construction of 5-storey houses began, suburban settlements and city outskirts started to be built up. Here it turned out that at the crossing of Baku Sea Cargo Port - Baku-Gruzovaya railway station, where there was quite a lively movement of trains, a lot of cars loaded with construction materials accumulated. Add to this the ever-increasing number of private vehicles, more active public traffic... the barrier at the crossing became a big nuisance. In 1961, a decision was made to build an overpass to allow uninterrupted traffic. It was the year of Yuri Gagarin's flight to Earth orbit, so there were no difficulties with the name of the bridge - of course “Gagarinsky”. In 1963, the Gagarinsky Bridge was put into operation: 203 meters in length, 17 - in width, 12 reinforced concrete piers ... it looked posh compared to the existing bridges. And the perspective opened from it on one of the central streets (Uzeyir Hajibekov) was pleasing to the eye. The Baku residents immediately liked the bridge. In the following videos I will show you how the new road looks like after the demolition of the bridge. Write your comments and impressions. I have not posted video on the channel for a long time due to some circumstances. But I am already planning to post regularly new interesting videos of my walks in Baku, Azerbaijan and other places, countries where I will visit. I really hope for your activity on the channel and support of the channel. Thank you for your attention!
