The best times to plant vary based on climate, but fall or spring, offer mild conditions to make your tree's new transition easier. I've found that using larger containers, particularly two or three-gallon sizes, offers the best growth results. One of the most important things is to ensure the tree's continuous growth and health before transplanting. It's essential to avoid transplant shock and take utmost care not to damage the roots. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of mulching for soil health, retaining moisture, and ensuring the tree's establishment. I've also noticed that having too many fruits on young trees can be counterproductive, and there's great value in diversifying the crops you grow. Watering is another key aspect. I've pinpointed a specific daily water range that seems ideal for smaller trees. I've seen firsthand how insufficient mulching can expose the root systems leading to slower establishment. Interestingly, fruits from younger trees may not always be the tastiest. It's more beneficial to focus on establishing the tree rather than rushing for early fruit yield. I always plant my trees in warm, sunny spots and ensure there's enough space between them. I've also learned the importance of adding organic materials to enrich the soil for better growth. Lastly, I've adopted the 'chop and drop' method to maintain soil moisture, especially during the warmer months.
