Laxman Singh Markam, a prominent tribal leader and Additional Commissioner of the Tribal Research Institute, Bhopal, has expressed his support for the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill during an interview with Main Bhi Bharat. Mark emphasised that the current Waqf Act does not apply to scheduled areas, as tribal lands enjoy special constitutional protections. He welcomed the amendments, particularly the provision that any government property identified as waqf will cease to be so, noting that this would prevent disputes over land ownership in tribal regions. Markam highlighted the importance of protecting tribal lands and asserted that the amendment bill is a positive step in ensuring clarity and safeguarding tribal rights.
