On September 17, 2024, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) pursued a driver identified as 34-year-old Anthony Hoyte, with active warrants who fled a traffic stop on Interstate 4. The pursuit began when Hoyte was observed driving recklessly at high speeds, with speeds reaching over 130 MPH across multiple counties. During the pursuit, Troopers made several attempts to slow the suspect’s vehicle safely, including a precision immobilization technique (P.I.T.), but Hoyte continued to evade law enforcement, creating a significant hazard to other motorists. The chase ended when FHP successfully executed a P.I.T. maneuver along Interstate 4, bringing the vehicle to a stop. Hoyte was taken into custody without further incident. Upon his arrest, Hoyte stated he did not pull over because he believed he "did not do anything wrong" and was unaware law enforcement was attempting to stop him. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun, which Hoyte claimed was his. Background checks revealed an active warrant out of Atlanta, Georgia, for aggravated assault with a firearm, with extradition pending. Hoyte has been transported to the Orange County Jail, facing multiple charges including reckless driving, fleeing/eluding high speed, and resisting arrest. The incident occurred across Polk, Osceola, and Orange Counties, Florida.
