Kindle paperwhite vs. Boox Page

The kindle is a great device that I will be keeping, but it lacks features like whispersync, text-to-speech, and I’ve always found manga hard to read on there. However, I almost never charge my kindle and the battery continues to sit at 80% for a month if I just leave it alone. Or if I’m actively using it, then a week or two depending. The Boox Page was difficult to setup once you downloaded the apps. There are different settings that work for different situations such as A2 mode works best for manga, but regal or speed works the best for text while using whispersync. The modes do tell you how prominent ghosting might be, but I do still find it worse than the kindle. And the Boox doesn’t have a native dark mode. Because this device is not very popular at the moment there is a lack of accessories to go with it. Even if I liked the clear cases, there isn’t a ready available way to get one in the US. I used an Etsy shop and my case is for a Kobo. Those are basically all the complaints I have with it thus far. However, I’ve set it up now and don’t have to think about the modes because each app is configured with your settings (which is nice), The screen is slightly bigger on the Boox at 7” whereas my Kindle signature comes in at 6.8”. The .2” in real estate must make a difference because I feel like manga is clearer and smaller text is easier to read. This may also be due to their e-paper science because the blacks are deeper and more detailed. I love that I can use buttons to click through manga or books and keep my fingers in the same place. Sometimes you’re too lazy to tap the screen when you’re all cozy in bed reading and having the option to just click a button is nice. Overall I’d give the Boox Page an 8.5/10. It’s not perfect and more people would probably prefer a kindle, but for serious manga readers and audio listeners I think it’s worth looking into!
