The park lies in the Jordaan district in the center of Amsterdam and is a triangle shape that is bordered by the Vondelstraat, Antjestraat, and Ferdinand Bolstraat. The park was built in 1661 to honor the famous playwright, Joost van den Vondel. It has grown over time with a number of renovations taking place, as well as adding more trees. The Vondelpark hosts many events throughout the year and is a very popular gather spot in the summer. Vondelpark is a green space that offers footpaths, bike paths, lush greenery, intimate gardens. Along with all green amenities Vondelpark has several monuments and other oddities including an amphitheater where concerts take place; two cast-iron vases gifted by Napoléon III; a sculpture made by Picasso, and a wooden gazebo donated by the royal family of Thailand.
