China Philharmonic Orchestra 2023 Japan Tour, Tokyo | Large-Scale Symphony KuKai

#中国爱乐之声 #中国爱乐乐团 #ChinaPhilharmonicOrchestra Composer: Zou Ye Conductor: Long Yu Orchestra: China Philharmonic Orchestra Chorus: Chorus of the Lanzhou Concert Hall Producer: Beijing Thunderdrum Culture & Media Co., Ltd Venue: Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall Under the baton of its Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Long Yu, the China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) performed a newly composed symphonic piece, Kukai, together with the Chorus of Lanzhou Concert Hall at the Kyoto Concerto Hall and the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall. Composed by Zou Ye, this piece pays tribute to the 1250th anniversary of the birth of the monk Kukai, an extraordinary figure who contributed significantly to the cultural exchange between China and Japan. This newly released symphony Kukai was delivered in Kyoto, where the monk Kukai used to propagate the Dharma, and Tokyo, the capital of Japan, during this tour, in the hope of conveying friendly signals of cultural exchanges between China and Japan. Monk Kukai was born on June 15th, according to the lunar calendar in the 5th year of Baogui (774 AD) of the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 C.E.). in 2023, China and Japan will both hold a series of events to honor this great pioneer of Sino-Japan cultural exchange. Kōkai was a Buddhist monk of the Heian period in Japan who crossed the sea to China to study with the great master of Buddhism, Huiguo. Kukai returned to Japan after completing his studies in China. The knowledge he brought back, including the Tantric sect of Buddhism and the advanced culture of the Tang Dynasty, have made an indelible contribution to the social and cultural advancement of ancient Japan. The symphonic piece Kukai, written by CPO resident composer Zou Ye, is based on the monk Kukai’s legendary life, praising the cultural exchanges between China and Japan that have lasted for more than 1000 years, and continuing the traditional friendship between the Chinese and Japanese people that has gone on for a long time.
