2024’s most fun FX pedals! EHX Lizard King, JHS Hard Drive, Source Audio Artifakt, EQD Time Shadows

At 42 Gear Street Six, Sweetwater Sound put together a pedalboard of 2024’s best, most fun – and, quite frankly, oddest – FX pedals for guitar and bass for me and the awesome Krenar Cilku to try out! On the board are the EHX Lizard King Bass Octave & Fuzz, the JHS Hard Drive, the Source Audio Artifakt Lo-fi Elements, the EarthQuaker Devices Time Shadows II Multi-Delay, and – holding everything together – the ever-reliable Walrus Audio Canvas Tuner. ----- Get these pedals at Thomann (EU): https://thmn.to/thocf/pg767fwxw9 At Sweetwater (USA): https://sweetwater.sjv.io/y2zXEW ----- These pedals (apart from the tuner) all came out in Summer 2024, so they were all totally fresh for me and Krenar – well, apart from the JHS Hard Drive for me. This was, therefore, the perfect chance for us to go on a journey of tonal discovery! The Electro Harmonix Lizard King Bass Octave Fuzz is a brother to 2023’s Lizard Queen Octave Fuzz. A vintage-style octave fuzz that’s optimized for bass but sounds MASSIVE on guitar too, it’s a top choice for anyone looking to add some high and low-end rumble to their tones. I’ve been lucky enough to own the JHS Hard Drive pretty much since it came out, and I’ve already made a video on it where I shoot it out against my other favorite high gain distortions like the Boss Metal Zone, the ProCo Rat, and the Revv G3 (here:    • JHS Hard Drive vs Boss Metal Zone vs ...  ). But it was new for Krenar, and I was excited to hear his bluesey riffs through it! The other two pedals are the real oddballs in the selection, though. First up is the Source Audio Artifakt, a lo-fi pedal with seven different modes and a huge amount of tonal options… there’s crackle, modulation, saturation, drive, compression, bit crushing, sample reduction, filtering, random glitches, and more in this beast. Then came the Time Shadows Multi Delay, which is a collaboration between EarthQuaker Devices and Death By Audio. Billed as a “subharmonic multi-delay resonator pedal”, the Time Shadows is an experimental pedal that doesn’t feature too many knobs, but, like many other EQD pedals, it’s chock full of beautiful and mad sounds in equal measure. To keep all of this quirkiness in check, you need a decent tuner, and the Walrus Audio Canvas Tuner was on the board for exactly that reason!
