It sound like your doctor put you on bed rest. I'm assuming that you're pregnant, and you're wondering how important this is for your well-being. And the answer is it's very important. You might be put on bed rest for lots of different reasons. Doctors put patients on bed rest who have preeclampsia because it helps to keep their blood pressures low. If all of their blood work is coming back normal and everything else looks okay, we try to buy some time and see if we can prolong the pregnancy. In the case of preterm labor, bed rest helps because it helps to stop regular contractions. If you increase your activity, you have more contractions, and if you rest, then it usually helps to keep them at bay.
