Today, we’re going straight to the top. If you thought diamonds were a luxury product, just wait until you hear about today’s topic - Pink Diamonds. There’s no doubt that few things in the world of diamonds conjure up as much mystique and envy as pink diamonds. For most of us, the only exposure we’ll ever get to pink diamonds is in the celebrity headlines. One of the most talked about engagement rings in history was the 6.1 carat Harry Winston pink diamond that Ben Affleck gave Jennifer Lopez. Pink Diamonds are extremely rare. While they can be found in mines around the world, they are most often found in the Argyle mine in Western Australia. Pink diamonds, like other fancy color diamonds, are graded on the following scale: Fancy light pink, fancy pink, fancy intense pink, fancy deep pink, and fancy vivid pink. Pink diamonds also often come with modifying colors which can have a significant impact on the diamond’s price. The most common modifying colors for pink diamonds are brownish, orangy, and purplish. It is important to note that clarity has a proportionally minimal effect on price with pink diamonds. These amazing gems are coveted because their color is so incredibly rare. A few small inclusions don’t really change that fact. Because of their extreme rarity, their prices far far surpass those of “regular” colorless diamonds. Lets take a look at a few examples to get an idea of just how expensive these wonders of nature are. Lets start with Fancy light pink. Here is a beautiful 1.45 carat pear shape with VVS1 clarity. The diamond is of course certified by GIA and has a perfect cut. Let’s compare that with this 1.52 carat D color VVS1 clarity pear shape. This is also a stunning diamond with a perfect cut. What is the difference in price? Well, the D color diamond is $21,000 while the Fancy light pink is a whopping $116,000! Now let's check out a Fancy pink! This is a 2.06 carat Fancy Pink pear shape with VS1 clarity from Leibish. Yet again, a stunning diamond. Compare that with this 2.01 D color VS2 clarity pear shape from James Allen. What do you think the price difference is? We’re talking about $23,500 versus just north of half a million dollars! Ok, and now to completely blow your socks off. Here is a 1.04 carat Fancy Vivid pink radiant shape diamond from Leibish. As you can see in the images, this diamond has a somewhat noticeable SI2 clarity inclusion right in the center of the table of the diamond. But it doesn’t matter. 1ct or larger vivid pink diamonds are extremely extremely rare. A 1.03ct D color SI2 clarity radiant cut diamond from James Allen only costs $4000. How does that compare to the Vivid pink from Leibish? Well that stone is $650,000!! If you’re one of the lucky few who are able to seriously consider buying pink diamonds, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Ira & I have extensive contacts at all levels of the diamond industry. We’ll make sure that when you buy a pink diamond, you’ll be paying the true cost of the diamond, and not a jacked up full retail price. This is always important, but when buying a pink diamond, where the difference can be hundreds of thousands of dollars, it’s simply critical to buy intelligently.
