best enjoyed on a small screen and with subtitles on. Canon compliant up until it isn't. People CARING about Regulus. People BEING THERE for Regulus. That's something that doesn't happen very much, does it? Well I'm here to change that. (And also because Reg's story makes me so sad every time I think about it and he deserves all the happiness and love in the world - and so I made this piece of junk that does ultimately follow the canon but gives my little cinnamon roll a little more love) Story: After Sirius is disowned, a broken-hearted Regulus is forced by his family to take on the Dark Mark to preserve the name that his brother had stained. A part of him blames Sirius for all the weight pressing on his shoulders - the other part just misses his older brother and admires him for finding the courage to leave. Now the Black Heir and bearing Voldemort's Mark, Regulus' life is more unbearable than ever. Is it too late to turn back? he wonders. Is it too late to do what Sirius did and take his life back? He realizes he doesn't care if it's too late. He snaps at his mother and rejects everything she's ever taught him. She casts him away just as she did to her older son. At Hogwarts, he is extremely closed off. The one who manages to get to him is Lily Evans, ironically enough a girl of a blood status he was taught to despise ever since he was a small child. But he doesn't anymore. He is in fact not sure he ever did. And after her, Remus Lupin. Marlene Mckinnon. James Potter. That awful boy - Regulus can hardly keep his wits about him when James Potter is around. The feeling appears to be mutual. Sirius is the last to come around, consumed with guilt about leaving his little brother behind. There are wounds that don't heal. But it's okay. Even scars can be beautiful. But the dark forces do not rest. Regulus discovers the Horcrux and proceeds on his quest to destroy it, knowing the chances of him making it out alive were very slim and yet refusing to involve anyone else. He dies in the cave, just as he is supposed to do. (But at least he dies a little happier.) [This was technically intended to be a fluffy marauders edit with a sad twist except somewhere along the way it became a Regulus Black-centric shitsow and I'm quite here for that. I've always liked the idea of Regulus being friends with the marauders - not necessarily with the group itself, but with each of them separately, and why not, eventually with the whole group i suppose And I'm quite the Jegulus shipper, so there's that.
