The National Civil Rights Museum’s first Catalyst for Change session for 2024-25, Tackling Prostate Cancer Disparities in Black Men, is a collaboration designed with Pfizer to expand awareness of prostate cancer risks, increase the number of Black men to receive baseline prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing, and identify the social determinants that can reduce the incidence of cancer among underserved racial and ethnic minority communities. Black men are 70% more likely to develop prostate cancer in their lifetime and twice as likely to die from the disease in comparison to white men. Despite novel diagnostics and therapeutics, advancements in cancer care delivery, and enhanced access to health care, cancer disparities persist. This forum will bring together individuals from healthcare, academia, private/public business sectors, and the public at large to discuss approaches to tackling these inequities.
