The new 2024 Mercedes E-Class, known as the W214, embodies a blend of sophistication and technological innovation. Built on the MRA2 platform, it retains much of its predecessor's powertrain and chassis, with notable enhancements such as a 20mm longer wheelbase and optional rear-wheel steering, reducing the turning circle. Externally, the E-Class boasts a redesigned aesthetic, featuring crisp character lines, a striking front-end graphic connecting the grille and LED headlights, and innovative tail lights with a distinctive three-pointed star graphic. The sleek design is complemented by flush door handles and sculpted front and rear bumpers, contributing to an impressive drag coefficient of 0.23. However, the true highlight lies in its software-driven technologies. The MBUX user interface system takes center stage, now running on a single processor for improved performance and higher data speeds. A new compatibility layer facilitates the installation of third-party apps. Interior enhancements include increased roominess, particularly in the rear, and the introduction of the MBUX Superscreen. This optional feature covers the right two-thirds of the dash with a 14.4-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger, creating an immersive and versatile entertainment hub. In terms of powertrains, the W214 offers a diverse range of options, including a single-spec 3.0-liter six-cylinder petrol engine, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with various power outputs, and a single-spec 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel. All powertrains are equipped with either mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid technology, with the latter featuring a substantial 25.4kWh battery for over 100km of pure electric driving range.
