3DO Doom: Ported To PC -- "PhoenixDoom"

Ever wanted to play 3DO Doom with a framerate that isn't crap? Probably not, because it still offers nothing that the PC version -- with all its various source ports and their associated flexibility -- isn't already capable of doing, at least in one way or another. But now you can play it anyway! https://github.com/BodbDearg/phoenix_... A dumb little demo run of MAP01 and MAP02 on Nightmare! difficulty, except in all effect it's really just like playing UV -fast. None of that respawning crap. So this one's a rather weird thing to say the least. The refresh rate for the internal logic and renderer in 3DO Doom runs at 60Hz for some godforsaken reason (vs 35Hz on PC), as a side-effect creating bizarre shit such as: Super-fast projectiles (and me playing here on Nightmare! only makes them even fucking faster). Slower player speed! It feels more like Quake than Doom for movement, if you can believe that's actually possible. Barely any momentum is gained from running, which is more of a light jog now. Supersonic weapon switching! Sector floor/ceiling heights changing at turbo speeds! LOOK AT THOSE DOORS GO! Absurd gravity, not that it really shows here. Perfect Hatred (if it was a thing here) would be literally impossible to complete, though. In any case, this is still a pretty early-doors moment for the project (the v1.01 release seen here is a mere three days old by the time of this video being uploaded), so with a bit of time these oddities can be ironed out. I'm genuinely curious to see how further development of this project goes, because I'm a sucker for all this console port stuff. Especially in these rare cases when the shitty ones can get un-shittified and ported back to PC. Sadly there's no savegame option, so if you're going to play this you'd better enjoy sitting through all 24 maps , or have a fondness for Pistol Starts when you come back.
