A panic attrack is an intense surge of fear that will sometimes come on very quickly and only last for a few minutes. Some will experience tension all over their body, tightness in their chest or even flushes of heat. It's important to keep in mind that our bodies are built to bring us down from that intense, emotional reaction to fear. A panic attack is simply a surge of fear and it is important to remember that the feelings will end and you will not die. JED Expert Stephanie Cherestal, PhD, also shares some helpful grounding techniques to bring down the level of intensity of the panic attack. These can include simple exercises like looking around the room and counting the tiles on the floor, or counting the different colors in the room — anything that can preoccupy the focus of our internal body and shift focus to our external body. However, if grounding practices aren't working for you and you're still experiencing frequent panic attacks, it may be time to reach out to a professional to get treatment and learn more about how to alleviate your panic attacks. If you find yourself scanning your emotions for signs of a panic attack or avoiding caffiene or exercise, or the strategies above are not working, consider reaching out for support. You don't have to manage this alone. Learn more about how to manage panic attacks and anxiety: https://jedfoundation.org/resource/si...
