In this video, Sam takes an in-depth look at the highly anticipated new Gibson Original Collection 50's Les Paul Standard, check it out here: https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/gibson-le... After a few years of producing guitars which have divided opinions amongst guitar players, with the Original Collection, it seems that Gibson have finally listened to what everyone’s been asking for, and reverted back to the simpler, more traditional Les Paul specifications of their iconic 1950’s and 60’s models. So that means gone are the motorised automatic tuners and flashy chrome hardware, we’re back to fully solid, none weight relieved bodies with more traditional finish options, and the volume and tone controls have been hand soldered, so no more PCB mounted push/pull pots. And, even better they’re quite a bit more affordable than the previous range of Les Paul Standards. Those traditional specs means that the new '50s Les Paul Standard features a fully solid (non-weight relieved) mahogany body, a set mahogany neck with chunky feeling 50's profile , a 12" radius genuine rosewood fingerboard and a nitrocellulose finish which will age beautifully. The hardware has been simplified from previous Les Paul Standards, with the 50's sporting a set of Kluson Deluxe style machine heads with keystone buttons and an ABR-1 Tunomatic bridge with aluminium tail piece. The electronics are also more traditional and era-correct, as the 50's LP Std is fitted with a pair of Burstbucker hum buckers, which use Alnico 2 magnets and are based on the original 1950's PAF pickups. As you'd expect, they run through a 3 way switch with two volume and tone controls, but unlike like Gibson's modern spec guitars which feature PCB mounted push/pull pots, the Original Collection's electronics comprises of hand soldered, traditional 500k knobs with orange drop capacitors.
