The general law related to the inheritance and succession is according to the framework of the Indian Succession Act 1925. The exceptions are Hindu, Sikh, Jain & Buddhists who are governed by the Hindu Succession Act 1956, and for Muslims' intestate succession is governed by Muslim Personal (Shariat) Law 1937. Christians and Jews also come under the purview of The Indian Succession Act. Religion wise and relatives wise, inheritance and succession are different.
