Wandering the streets of Takayama, Japan, where there are many old japanese houses that have been preserved over the years. Nestled in the heart of the Japanese Alps amidst a lush natural landscape, Takayama's historic district (高山) stands as a testament to Japan's prosperous Edo period (1603-1868). This ancient merchant city in Gifu prefecture has long been celebrated for the exceptional woodcraft produced by its local artisans. During the 8th century, when the city couldn't pay its taxes in rice, as was customary, it provided the remarkable talents of its woodworkers as an alternative. Presently, Takayama is often referred to as "the little Kyoto of the Japanese Alps," thanks to its pedestrian-friendly streets adorned with traditional houses. Experience a Timeless Journey in Takayama's Old Town Situated just east of the Miyagawa River that flows through the city center, Takayama's historic district (古い町並, Furui Machinami) is a well-preserved former merchant area. It consists of two official preservation districts for traditional buildings, featuring numerous Edo-period merchant houses characterized by latticed bay windows and wooden trellises. The slender facades were initially designed to minimize property taxes. Traditional Japanese houses line a street in Takayama Takayama's old town's Sannomachi street showcases preserved Edo-period buildings. During the day, the streets are marked by noren shop curtains and sugidama (cedar sprig balls hung in sake breweries). As night descends, and the tourists retreat, a serene quiet envelops the neighborhood. The gentle glow of lights emerging from behind the wooden lattices transports you back to a time of ancient elegance and enchantment. 👉 Click here for more HDR Japan Walks... http://bit.ly/click-here-to-subscribe... 📷 Follow on Instagram / virtualjapantv 🌃 HDR Night Walks 🌙 https://bit.ly/hdr-night-walks 🇯🇵 HDR Japan Walks ☀️ http://bit.ly/hdr-japan-walks Become a channel member to get access to exclusive 360° behind the scenes footage! / @virtualjapan 🎥 Camera Gear 📸 Camera - http://camera.virtualjapan.tv Wide Lens - http://lens.virtualjapan.tv Zoom Lens - https://geni.us/vjzl1 Portrait Lens - https://geni.us/vjpl1 Gimbal - http://gimbal.virtualjapan.tv Audio recorder - https://geni.us/vja1 Livestream Camera - https://geni.us/vjsc1 Livestream Gimbal - https://geni.us/vjsg1 Bikeride camera - https://geni.us/vjbc2 360 camera - https://geni.us/vj3601 (new model, same quality) 👉 Click the Amazon Affiliate links above when shopping for anything on Amazon It costs you nothing extra, but a small percentage of the any sale goes towards supporting this channel 😄 🔴 Come hang with us on Twitch / virtualjapan 💬 Chat with us on Discord / discord 🧢 MERCH STORE 👕 https://store.virtualjapan.tv 🤝 Support us on Patreon! / virtualjapan #4kHDR #tokyo #japan #slowtv
