How to do Sirsasana C | Headstand Variation in Ashtanga Yoga

While this pose isn’t always practiced in the Intermediate Series, it provides a challenging (and sometimes fun!) opportunity to tap into even more focus and engagement throughout the body. In this tutorial, we’re showing you how to do SIRSASANA C / HEADSTAND VARIATION C as sometimes practiced in Ashtanga Yoga’s Intermediate Series. This variation isn’t taught in Led Mysore classes and there’s no vinyasa cues or Sanskrit count - you just move into it after Sirsasana A and the pike - so we’re showing you more for the fun and education of it! This challenging pose requires a lot of shoulder mobility so you’ll learn how to set up the arms, how to initiate movement through the shoulders as you shift the gaze, and where to activate your muscles to help keep that straight and steady line throughout the inversion.
