Old Mother Flanagan (on a Grain Measure Banjo made by Bob Thornburg.) By Steve Baughman.

My playing here is heavily influenced by the styles of Bob Thornburg, who also made the banjo, and Mark MacPherson of Beaverton, OR. I looked far and wide, in vain, for “the definitive“ version of Old Mother Flanagan. The tune is as varied as can be. What I offer here is somewhat influenced by Lester McCumber and Dwight Diller. (Lester never plays the four chord, s’far as I can tell. Dwight makes a big moment of it. I follow Dwight on that.) My main source is Texas banjo player, Walter Johnson, who taught it to me at the Kosmos Cafe in Nevada City, CA.
