Lynton & Barnstaple Steam Railway Autumn Gala - 2023

As promised back in May, a short visit to the Lynton and Barnstaple Steam Railway for their annual and highly popular Autumn Gala. The line is just 0.9 miles long, running between Woody Bay Station, and Killington Lane, with no intermediate stops. The line is relaid along the former narrow gauge branch line from Barnstaple to just outside Lynton. Originally closed in 1935, a section was relaid and opened in 2004, and along with a short extension in 2006, it gives us the line we see today. The Masterplan is to see the line extended as far as possible. The track work and maintenance is impeccable, one could mistake it for the mainline, a testament to those who spend their time on the line. Visiting for the weekend, were Welsh Hunslets ' Lilla' and ' Hugh Napier' from the Ffestiniog railway, running with the Lynton and Barnstaple residents, Southern replica No. 762 ‘Lyn’, & Kerr Stuart & Co Ltd No. 2451 ‘Axe’. Only being able to stay for Saturday morning, shots were taken at: 00:00 Lynton and Barnstaple Steam Railway Autumn Gala 00:10 Lilla & Hugh Napier leave Killington Lane 01:50 Lyn leaves Killington Lane 03:08 Axe approaches Killington Lane 04:40 7¼ inch steam 04:53 Lyn leaves Woody Bay 06:35 Lilla & Hugh Napier coast down the hill 07:48 Lilla & Hugh Napier charge up the hill 09:00 Lyn descends towards Killington Lane 10:03 Axe heads to Woody Bay 11:12 Lilla & Hugh Napier head to Killington Lane 11:43 Lyn climbs up to Woody Bay station 12:46 American style 7¼ inch loco 12:56 Lyn outside of Woody Bay 14:18 Axe & Lyn top and tail 16:22 Lilla & Hugh Napier run around at Woody Bay 19:10 Lyn arrives at Woody Bay 19:56 Lilla & Hugh Napier leave for Killington Lane I hope you enjoy watching this. If you do, please like, comment, and subscribe; it really is rather flattering. This was filmed on Saturday 23rd September, in the morning. If you’re wondering why this film has come out a bit later than usual, I filmed 3 events during the weekend, including HSTs on the West Somerset Railway on the Saturday afternoon, and 45596 Bahamas with the Royal Duchy to Par on the Sunday, the former being much easier to edit in time for a broadcast at the usual time.
